Memory Super-Cycle Intact: What It Means for SK Hynix and Samsung

In a report titled “Global Memory Tech — Weekly theme: Shareholder return upside, 4Q guidance preview, resilient spot/export”, the analysis argues that Korean memory chipmakers are positioned to step up dividends and buybacks, citing exceptionally low price-to-earnings ratios after severe share-price corrections and strong free cash flow growth despite lingering downturn concerns. The report retains an assumed buyback-to-dividend split of 60:40 for SK Hynix, whose holdco SK Square owns only a 21% stake, versus 40:60 for Samsung, which has far more retail shareholders including the Lee family. Neither company has announced new plans, but the analysis suggests management at both may view current share prices as too low relative to fundamentals.
