Bernstein on CATL: Consolidation Push Meets ESS Boom — Outperform, TP HKD770

Bernstein’s Battery Weekly, dated 21 September 2026, reports that CATL has won regulatory approval to acquire Chongqing Yaoning New Energy, a Geely-backed 30 GWh battery plant, deepening China’s battery-sector consolidation. The same note flags CATL’s energy-storage (ESS) revenue rising 87.5% year-on-year to RMB 53.3 billion in 1H26, alongside a wave of European and Asian capacity announcements from BYD, SK On, Panasonic and Li Auto. Bernstein’s published target price for CATL stands at HKD 770, with the stock trading at CNY 304.1 and a market capitalisation of US$214.3 billion as of 18 September 2026.
