In Short

nLIGHT’s record Q2 hides a supply chain time bomb: revenue up 55% but industrial segment silent, HADES missing, and stock drops 11% after hours. Is this a one-trick defense pony? Read the full analysis to see what management isn’t telling you.

The Lede & The Real Story

nLIGHT’s second-quarter 2026 earnings call was a masterclass in celebrating the surface while dancing around the cracks. On paper, the numbers look stellar: revenue of $82.59 million, up 3% sequentially from Q1’s $80.18 million and a 55% year-over-year surge; adjusted EPS of $0.15, beating estimates by 6.3%; and a record gross margin that management touted as proof of “operating leverage.” But beneath the headline beats, the call revealed a company increasingly dependent on a single customer and a single product line—Aerospace & Defense (A&D)—while the industrial and microfabrication segments, once the bedrock of the business, are quietly shrinking. The real story is not the record revenue; it’s the fragility of that growth. Management’s own words—”supply chain headwinds” and “export controls”—paint a picture of a company that is one geopolitical shift or one component shortage away from a very different narrative. The stock’s after-hours drop of 11.48% to $66.78, despite the beat, suggests the market sees what the press release glosses over: this is a one-trick pony, and the trick is getting riskier.
