Goldman Sachs on China: Lower GDP Forecast, HK Five-Year Plan, Trump-Xi Summit

Goldman Sachs has trimmed its China real GDP growth forecasts for the third and fourth quarters of 2026 to 4.4% yoy from 4.6% previously, and cut its full-year 2026 forecast to 4.5% from 4.6%, after mixed August activity data. The bank also flagged Hong Kong’s first Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) and a likely Trump-Xi summit on September 23-25, with the PBOC’s USDCNY fixing falling below 6.70 for the first time since 2022.
